Men’s Soccer Hosts UT Tyler in Home Opener on Thursday

2023 SEASON IN REVIEW
The Patriots return to Patriot Field after a 6-8-6 season that landed the team third overall in the 2023 Lone Star Conference standings. Their season ended in the championship round of the LSC Tournament against Midwestern State. 

Senior Peyton Voelker ended the season with All-Region Honors. Voelker tied his single-season record of 11 goals. Rosales and Unger's six assists were the second most in a single season.

COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
The DBU Men's Soccer team kicks off the 2024 season against UT Tyler on Thursday evening. The Patriots are coming off a season that saw them go 6-8-6 overall, and their 3-3-3 conference record placed them in third place in the 2023 Lone Star Conference Standings. 

PATRIOT STORYLINES 
- The Patriots enter the season picked to finish fourth in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll. 
- DBU returns 20 lettermen from last year's team including their top three goal scorers in Peyton Voelker (11), Gavyn Rosales (6), and Hunter Dierlam (3) and welcome 10 freshmen to the squad.
- DBU also welcomes back three All-Lone Star Conference performers, including Peyton Voelker (First Team), who received D2CCA First Team All-South Central Region honors, Ethan Michael and Evan Putsejovsky (All-Freshman). 
- The Patriots bring back 79 percent of their goal production from last year. 
- The Patriots were 6-2-1 when they scored at least two goals last season and posted a 5-2-3 record when they scored first. 


SCOUTING UT TYLER
- The UT Tyler Patriots are coming off a 5-4-8 season, their second season in which they didn't reach the LSC tournament. 
- UT Tyler enters the 2024 season tabbed 9th in the LSC Preseason Poll. 
- The Patriots ended the 2023 season ranked #4 in the LSC conference in saves per game (3.53). 
- The Patriots return 17 players from last season.
- Salomão Saboia returns to the Patriots for his senior year after ending the season with All-LSC Honors.
- UT Tyler has quite a heavy roster filled with upperclassmen and four freshmen as they must replace their leading scorer (5) Thato Meko. 
 
SERIES HISTORY 

DBU is 3-6 against UT Tyler, the Patriots won at home against UT Tyler for the first time in series history in 2023 (4-2).

DBU travels to Bethany, Oklahoma, to face Southern Nazarene on Saturday, September 7. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
