Patriots Open Season with 1-1 Draw Against UT Tyler

THE RUNDOWN
DBU and UT Tyler tied in a 1-1 match Thursday night at Patriot Field. Senior Peyton Voelker gave the Patriots their first goal of the season in the second half off a Hunter Dierlam assist. However, a UT Tyler equalizer in the 84th minute left DBU with their first draw of the season.

Patriots Field saw a tight battle between DBU and UT Tyler throughout the first half as neither team was willing to concede. The Patriots posted four shots with one on goal with UT Tyler posting eight shots and three on goal. It was a foul-heavy first half with each team posting six fouls each.

The first shot on goal for the Patriots came from Hunter Dierlam at the 8:00 mark of the first half towards the top right of the net
but it was saved by UT Tyler's keeper. The heavy defensive momentum seemed to carry throughout the first half as neither team could get a shot on target. Patrick Banich would see multiple shots on goal throughout the first half from UT Tyler with his first save coming at the 21:00 mark.

With three minutes left in the first half, Gavyn Rosales attempted to get a cross over to Voelker but it was saved. In the final seconds, the Patriots would be awarded a free kick right outside the box giving Evan Lupo the chance to put DBU on board with a header but it was off target, ending the first half scoreless.

The Patriots start the second half with strong momentum as Avery Brazell on the breakaway tries to get a cross in for a shot attempt but it was cleared at the goal line by UTT. Moments later, UT Tyler attempted to get a shot off of a header but Banich was there to clear it away to keep the score even.

The match would continue to see a strong defensive battle from both sides of the pitch as Andrew Wagner would go 1v1 with a UT Tyler defender to award DBU their first corner of the second half at the 51:24 mark. Not too long later, Brazell attempted to get the Patriots on the board with a bicycle kick but the shot was too wide.

Voelker would score in the 76th minute awarding DBU a 1-0 advantage off of an assist by Hunter Dierlam Into a seemingly empty goal as Voelker UTT goalkeeper Alan Johnson came out of the goal. Voelker would try for a brace not 30 seconds later but it was off target. UTT eliminated the deficit as Julian Smith slipped a shot past Banich with the equalizer in the 84th minute. Each side would see several more goal attempts but no one was able to find the go-ahead goal with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
