THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team fell 3-0 to ninth-ranked Midwestern State on Wednesday night at Patriot Soccer Field. Two early goals from the Mustangs set the tone, as the Patriots dropped to 1-2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
Â
Midwestern State wasted little time getting on the board, with Liam Kervick striking just over a minute into the match. Moments later, Alan Rivera doubled the lead in the fifth minute, giving the Mustangs a 2-0 cushion before the Patriots could settle in.
Â
DBU responded with several quality chances late in the first half but was unable to convert, heading into the locker room trailing 2-0.
Â
In the 55th minute,
Erik Oliveira appeared to pull one back for the Patriots when his shot from close range slipped past Mustang keeper Daniel Robles, but the goal was negated by an offsides call. Midwestern State added an insurance goal in the 78th minute, as Cooper Tea found the back of the net to seal the 3-0 result.
