LAST TIME OUT
Last week, the Lady Patriots won each of their three contests at The Burg Center, breaking a streak of 31 consecutive days without a home game in style. After sweeping Texas A&M International in arguably the most dominant win of the season, DBU kept its foot on the gas against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State, ending the week 9-1 in sets played.
Perhaps the most exciting result of last week's games was the increase in both volume and production from the opposite hitters:
Reagan Fifer posted the best three-game stretch of her career, putting down 26 kills with a hitting percentage of .568 across the homestand.
Ella Swinn also flourished, recording 21 kills with a hitting percentage of .424.
The Lady Patriots have gotten looks at both St. Mary's and St. Edward's this season: DBU swept the Rattlers a few short weeks ago at the Lone Star Conference Crossover in a game that
Aizlyn Dewberry dominated with nine total blocks. St. Edward's traveled to The Burg Center for the Dallas Classic on opening weekend, but didn't face off against the Lady Patriots. DBU and SEU were able to get live scouting of each other, as the Hilltoppers opened the year 1-2.
PATRIOT STORYLINES
Heating Up: DBU currently owns a four-game winning streak after starting 0-2 in conference play, with the opportunity to push that number to six after this weekend.
Witte Remarks: Lauren Witte became the third Lady Patriot to win LSC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday for her performance this past week. The freshman from Fulshear finished the homestand with 35 kills and a .320 hitting percentage.
iKarly: Junior outside
Karly Wells is currently averaging 4.92 kills per set, which leads the Lone Star Conference and is second-most in the nation (5.08, Abigail Nua - Point Loma). The current program record for kills per set in a single season was set by
Delaney Fuller last season at 4.62.
Ice Cold Winters: Freshman setter
Paityn Winters leads the team with eight double-doubles on the year, averaging 5.21 assists per set and 2.85 digs per set.
Opposites Attract: Opposite hitters
Reagan Fifer and
Ella Swinn combined for 47 kills across the homestand in what was a career week for both attackers.
Trick Up The Sleeve: DBU currently leads the Lone Star Conference in aces per set, averaging 1.94 entering this weekend.
