COUNTDOWN TO TIP-OFF
DBU joins nine other top Division II programs in Lakeland, Florida, for the 2025 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.
​
The Patriots will open the season with games against No. 13 Michigan Tech from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and No. 2 Washburn, another 2024-2025 national semifinalist, from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

2024-2025 IN REVIEW
The Patriots turned in arguably the best season in program history last year, setting a new program record for wins (34-5, 19-3 LSC) and finishing as a national semifinalist in Evansville, Indiana.
​
Finishing the season ranked fourth in the country, DBU had three players make all-conference teams. The now-graduated dynamic duo of
Cameron Kahn and
Ricky Lujan earned First Team honors, while
Xavion Brown made the Second Team and the All-Defensive team.
Trevor Frank was also named LSC Sixth Man of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Kahn was named the Most Valuable Player of the South Central Regional Tournament, which was held at The Burg Center.
​
Dr. Blake Flickner earned the 2024-2025 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year award, and a month later stacked it with the Small Basketball Coach of the Year title, voted on by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

PATRIOT STORYLINES
New Heights: DBU enters the season ranked No. 3 in the country by the NABC. It is the highest preseason ranking in program history.
Doctor's Note: Dr. Blake Flickner carries a career coaching record of 375-215 heading into the 2025-2026 season.
Defend The Belt: The Patriots were picked to win the Lone Star Conference in the LSC preseason poll.
Quick Hands: DBU led the country in steals per game (13.10) and turnovers forced per game last year (22.53).
Wide Margins: Last season, the Patriots led the Lone Star Conference in average point differential, with a +13.5 clip.
Digging Deep: DBU led the Lone Star Conference in bench points per game last year (33.61).
Clutch Factor: Trevor Frank and
Xavion Brown led everyone in the postseason last year in the steal department, totaling 19 and 17, respectively, during the Patriots' playoff run.
String Music: Trevor Frank finished second in the country in three-pointers made during the postseason last year.

SCOUTING #13 MICHIGAN TECH
- In the 2024-2025 season, the Huskies posted a 24-8 record, good for a .750 winning percentage, which is quite the improvement from their .393 winning percentage in 2023-2024.
- Michigan Tech's season ended in the regional semifinals against No. 16 Lake Superior State last year, whom DBU wound up defeating in the Elite Eight.
- The Huskies were 4-1 in neutral-site games last season.
- Michigan Tech is led by senior Marcus Tomashek, a 6'6 guard who is the reigning GLIAC Player of the Year.
- The Huskies return their entire starting five from last year's campaign.
- Last season, Tomashek finished third in the country in field goals attempted, averaging 17.41 shot attempts per game. He finished the 24-25 campaign averaging 23.6 points per game with a slash line of .425/.352/.722.
- Head coach Josh Buettner was named the conference Coach of the Year last season. He is returning for his fifth season, sporting a career record of 45-45 as a head coach.

SCOUTING #2 WASHBURN
- Last season, Washburn (30-4) was eliminated in the national semifinals by Nova Southeastern, the eventual NCAA DII National Champions.
- The Ichabods were a spotless 16-0 in their own barn last season, and 5-2 in neutral-site games.
- Washburn spent the entire 2024-2025 campaign ranked in the top 10, holding the No. 1 spot for five consecutive weeks at one point.
- The Ichabods led the country in postseason team field goal percentage (53%) last year.
- Washburn was only out-rebounded by their opponent three times last season, including their national semifinal loss.
- Jack Bachelor averaged the most points for any current 'Bods returner last season at 13.6 ppg. Bachelor contributed a slash line of .467/.391/.856, and added 5.5 assists per game last year.
- Ichabod head coach Brett Ballard has an all-time record of 200-109 heading into the new year.
