No. 3 Patriots Come Up Short Against No. 2 Washburn

THE RUNDOWN
Sunday afternoon, No. 3 ranked DBU (0-2) fell to No. 2 Washburn (2-0) to conclude their time at the 2025 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.

Jackson McCabe opened the scoring with a rim rattler less than a minute into the contest. Trailing 6-5 early, DBU would go on a 7-0 run that gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the half. TJ Thomas led the team with ten points, supported by Drew Calderon and Daniel Figueira, who both had six after one.

Washburn was the more efficient team inside the first 20 minutes, but DBU had enough success from beyond the arc to maintain the lead despite shooting just 38.7% from the field in the first half. The Patriots led 43-41 heading into the locker rooms.

The two teams alternated buckets through the first four minutes of the second half before the Ichabods went on a 10-1 run, claiming a 58-53 lead with 13:30 left in the game. TJ Thomas made a three that brought DBU to within three points, but Washburn responded by rattling off 11 consecutive points, and the Patriots weren't able to recover, losing this one 89-77.
