THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team saw their 2025 campaign come to an end Saturday night, falling 1–0 to UT Tyler in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals at Patriot Soccer Field.
In a tightly contested defensive battle, the two sides remained deadlocked until the 87th minute when UTT's Tony Ngombi found the back of the net off a pass from Luan Rangel, breaking the scoreless tie and delivering the decisive goal.
UT Tyler held a 13–7 edge in total shots, but DBU's back line and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Sean Mattivi stood firm throughout the night. Mattivi turned in a stellar performance with six saves, including several highlight-reel stops that kept the Patriots within striking distance.
Offensively, DBU began to generate momentum midway through the second half, pressing the attack and creating chances in the final third. However, the Patriots were unable to capitalize with a shot on goal before the late breakthrough from UTT's Ngombi sealed the match.
