Patriots Push Win Streak to Four with Road Triumph Over Texas A&M International

THE RUNDOWN
Saturday afternoon, DBU (6-4, 2-0 LSC) defeated Texas A&M International (2-6, 1-1 LSC) by a score of 72-59, extending the Patriots' winning streak to four. Bishop Jones posted a season high 28 points, leading everyone on the floor in scoring for the second consecutive game.

The Dustdevils opened the scoring with a trey just a little under a minute into the contest, and would build their lead to as much as eight points as the first half grew older. Trailing 15-23 with seven minutes left in the opening frame, the Patriots set out on the comeback trail. Daniel Figueira led the charge by landing three triples in less than two minutes, helping to shrink the deficit to four with four minutes left in the half. An AJ Borden steal turned into a Trevor Frank three, bringing DBU to within one. The teams would then trade buckets, before AJ Borden converted an and-one, giving DBU their first lead of the game at 35-33 with under a minute remaining in the first half, and they would never let it go. The Patriots led 37-33 at the half.

DBU came out of the halftime break hot, rattling off a 14-5 run within the first five minutes of the second frame. The Dustdevils wouldn't go quietly, however, as they were able to produce an 18-9 run midway through the second half, bringing the score as close as 62-59 at one point. The Patriots' defense would respond to that run by not allowing Texas A&M International to score a single point inside the final six minutes of the game.

Coach Dr. Blake Flickner had this to say on the win: "Gritty road win against a very tough team. Bishop was unstoppable on offense, and in the second half, our defense really stepped up. We needed to take better care of the ball and finish stronger, but lots of good today as well."
