DBU's Five-Game Win Streak Comes to an End in 15-14 Loss to Maryville

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU STUNT team played in a fight to the finish in a 15-14 loss to the Maryville University Saints on Saturday in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The game ended in a disappointing loss in the final routine of the last quarter to hand the Patriots their first loss of the season.

FINAL SCORE (DBU-14, MU-15)
Quarter 1 - Partner Stunts Score: 3-1 The Patriots started the game with confidence and high energy. They took the first three points of this Quarter, giving Maryville the point in routine one after a few small timing issues.

Quarter 2 - Pyramids and Tosses Score: 6-3 What is typically the strongest quarter for the Saints, ended up being a stronger quarter for the Patriots. Maryville took the first point in routine five, but from there it was all DBU. This lead in the first half gave the Patriots the motivation to come back in the second half just as strong.

Quarter 3 - Jumps and Tumbling Score: 8-6 Following halftime, the Saints came back strong and took the first two points in the quarter. Both teams tied the point for routine 2 and the Patriots got the point for the final routine of the quarter, routine 5.

Quarter 4 - Team Routine Final Score: 14-15 With only a two-point lead to start the final quarter, the pressure to perform for both teams intensified. It was neck and neck for most of quarter four until the last routine. The Saints were up 12-13 as they had possession and called routine 3. Maryville received the partner stunt point, while DBU took the jumps and tumble point. After a great performance in pyramid and tosses by both teams, the last round of the game came down to a tie and left the Patriots down by one point.

"This was a very tough loss after a hard fought and close game," said Head Coach Callie Taylor. "Our team had the most consistent game of the season so far so I am very proud of the effort they put forth. Maryville is a great team, and we look forward to meeting them again at STUNT Nationals with a different ending."
