No. 17 Patriots Fall to No. 2 LSU at Globe Life Field

THE RUNDOWN

The No. 17 ranked DBU Patriots (6-2) fell to the No. 2 ranked LSU Tigers (8-1) by a four-run margin at Globe Life Field. Patriot starter Ryan Borberg tossed four innings of one-run ball, striking out three. Borberg used 69 pitches to get through his four frames of work.

The Tigers were able to scratch one run across in the top of the first via an RBI double that followed a leadoff walk. Borberg would then accumulate twelve outs without conceding another run.

The Patriot offense was held silent through four innings, as the Pats couldn't manifest a single baserunner until the bottom of the fifth. LSU would bat around in the top of the fifth, and bring in another four runs in the process.

Grant Jay was the first Patriot to reach base and did so in style, sending a baseball 426 feet into the second deck of Globe Life Field. Later in the frame, Joey Nerat reached on a throwing error, setting the table for a Jake Bennett 443' blast, making it a two-run game.

LSU would answer back in the top of the sixth with a two-run inning, handing the Pats a four-run deficit with twelve outs to play with.

In the bottom of the eighth, DBU would threaten with runners on the corners and one out. Tom Poole would then rip a line drive right to the Tiger first baseman Jared Jones, setting up an easy double-play to eliminate the Patriot threat.

LSU's Casan Evans would complete his second six-out save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
