Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Season with Matches in Arkadelphia, Arkansas

DBU ENTERS SPRING SEASON
The DBU Women's Tennis team opens their spring campaign this weekend in Arkadelphia, AR. The Lady Patriots will face Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State. Their last event in the fall was the ITA South Central Regional Championship in Arlington, Texas. 

The DBU Women's Tennis team concluded their fall season at the ITA South Central Regional Championships over the weekend at the Arlington Tennis Center. As a team, the Lady Patriots posted their best overall showing in program history after advancing their most players to the round of 16 in A draw singles while also seeing a pair of doubles teams reach the quarterfinals and one advancing to the semifinal round.

In singles play, DBU won each of their first-round singles matches. Emily Buchanan highlighted the Lady Patriots' performances, defeating the No. 18 singles player in the country before falling in the quarterfinals. Leonie Schondelmaier also reached the quarters in singles play. Jenna Payne won her draw, defeating opponents from UT Tyler, Lubbock Christian, UT Permian Basin, and Midwestern State. Andrea Delgado and Sarah Stewart each fell in the semifinals of their draw in singles as well.

In doubles action, the Lady Patriots were led by the team of Isabella Arana Rios and Madalyn Smelley, who advanced to the semifinal round, while Buchanan and Schondelmaier teamed up to reach the quarters. Jenna Payne and Isabella Quintero won a match in the back draw of doubles before falling in a breaker to UT Tyler.



PATRIOT STORYLINES
-  The DBU Women's Tennis team kicks off their spring season on Friday against Ouachita Baptist. 
- The Lady Patriots returns six players from last season, including Isabella Arana Rios, Emily Buchanan, Jenna Payne, Leonie Schondelmaier, Madalyn Smelley, and Sarah Stewart.
- The Patriots are excited to welcome freshman Andrea Delgado as she prepares for her first spring with the team.
- DBU also brought in junior transfer Isabella Quintero from Meridian Community College.


SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST 

- DBU will face Ouachita Baptist on Friday at 1 pm. 
- Ouachita Baptist competes at the NCAA Division II level in the Great American Conference. 
- The Lady Patriots own the all-time series, 2-0, against the Tigers since their first matchup on March 10, 2012. 


SCOUTING HENDERSON STATE
- DBU will face Henderson State on Friday at 11am. 
- Henderson State competes at the NCAA Division II level in the Great American Conference. 
- The all-time series between the Lady Patriots and the Reddies is tied at 2-2, dating back to their first matchup on February 17, 2006.


UP NEXT
The Lady Patriots will face the University of Dallas in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, before traveling to Honolulu, HI, to take on Stanislaus State, Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific, and Hawaii Hilo from Sunday to Wednesday.
