THE RUNDOWN
The No. 15 ranked DBU Patriots fell to the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders Sunday afternoon at Horner Ballpark, ending the first weekend series of CUSA play.Â
Both sides would be held scoreless in the opening frame, before MTSU would rattle off a four spot in the top of the second, chasing Patriot starter Rian Schwede.
In the bottom of the second, the Pats would respond via Nathan Humphreys' sixth home run of the season, making it 4-1 after two.
Jerrod Jenkins would toss a scoreless top of the third, and the Patriot bats would scratch two across in the bottom half, courtesy of a Humphreys RBI single and a Chayton Krauss sacrifice fly.
In the top of the fifth, the Blue Raiders would chase Jenkins after scoring three and loading the bases. All three runners would come around to score before the end of the inning, making it 10-3 after the top of the fifth.
Scoring would halt until the eighth when MTSU would add to their lead with two runs in the top half.
Patriot bats would respond with three in the bottom half, scoring three runs from a pair of RBI singles from Keaton Grady and Cody Grebeck.
DBU would get blanked in the home half of the ninth, ending the game 12-6.
