DBU's Thrilling 76-70 Victory Secures First-Ever Lone Star Conference Championship

THE RUNDOWN
In historic fashion, the DBU Patriots captured the 2025 Lone Star Conference Championship Title, defeating No. 2 seed Lubbock Christian by a final score of 76-70. The intense game showcased DBU's resilience and depth, culminating in a late-game comeback to secure their first-ever conference title. The Patriots secured an early lead over the Chaps but struggled with momentum at the start of the second half. It was a put-back dunk by Xavion Brown followed by a jumper by Cody Stevens that shifted the momentum in favor of DBU. In the end, DBU's relentless offensive pressure outlasted Lubbock Christian, securing their first conference title in program history.

The first half was kickstarted by Xavion Brown's turnaround jumper, giving DBU both the lead and momentum. Defensively, the Patriots stifled the Chaps, holding them scoreless for three minutes. Offensive firepower came from Ricky Lujan and Jaden Shelvin, with Lujan contributing eight points in two minutes. DBU closed out the half with a 9-0 run in two minutes, heading into the locker-room with a 14-point lead.

LCU came out of halftime with a vengeance, opening the half with a 14-2 run over four and a half minutes. Najeeb Muhammad and Ethan Duncan led the charge, hitting key shots to swinging momentum in the Chaps' favor. It wasn't until the 10-minute mark that DBU began to make some strides, with Shelvin and Jackson McCabe dominating the paint. The two teams began trading the lead, but it was Brown's electric dunk that ignited a snowball effect for DBU's offense. Cody Stevens quickly capitalized on the momentum, draining a two-pointer and three-pointer in just over a minute.

The final two minutes of the game were filled with high intensity as LCU fought to reclaim their lead. Faced with a ticking clock and the mounting pressure, the Chaps began to lose their rhythm, turning over the ball twice in a matter of seconds. With 26 seconds left, the score was 72-70 in favor of the Patriots, and it was their relentless pursuit of victory that ultimately outlasted the Chaps.
