THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots hit the road this weekend and headed to Nashville, Tennessee to face two SELC opponents, the Vanderbilt Commodores (5-3) and Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (1-5).Â
On Friday, Vanderbilt hosted DBU at Natchez Trace Field, where the Patriots got off to a slow start. After ending the first quarter down 5-2, the Patriots would rally back to cut the lead to two heading into the 4th. Sophomore attackman
Jacob Ruiz did everything he could to rally his team. Finishing the game with 6 goals and 1 assist, Ruiz came up big in a moment when his team needed him the most.Â
Ultimately, the Patriots would come up short in the end, with a final score of 11-14, but a score this close just emphasizes the strides that this team has made over the past few years under Head Coach Zeb Williams.
Freshman Captain Rocco Cantrell had this to say about this weekend's road trip, "Knowing we were going up against some of the toughest competition we'd seen so far this season and being able to step up to that role was huge for this team's growth."
Saturday would be a complete change of pace against Middle Tennessee State. After putting up 9 points in the first quarter, the offense for DBU was clicking on all cylinders. 11 different DBU players would finish with at least 1 point, including Goaltender
Gregory Williamson, who picked up his first assist of the season.Â
Attackmen
Jacob Ruiz and
Christian Beckett would combine to finish the game with 26 combined points. Both players continue to be bright spots in this offense, leading the way for other players to step in an offense that is currently averaging 13 points/game.Â
