THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Patriots (28-11, 11-4 CUSA) dismantled the Sam Houston State Bearkats (8-32, 2-13 CUSA) in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark. Patriot starter Ryan Borberg went five strong, allowing four runs and striking out six.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first, marking the first frame of the entire weekend that featured two zeroes in the box score. Scoring opened in the top of the second, where Sam Houston State took their first lead of the series with two RBI singles.

In the bottom of the second, the Patriots responded with a five-spot. Landon Underhill and Nathan Humphreys left the yard and sandwiched between them was a Keaton Grady RBI sac bunt.

In the top of the fourth, the Bearkats broke through and hit their first home run of the weekend, shrinking their deficit to one. The Pats responded with four in the fourth, highlighted by Humphreys' second homer of the afternoon. Elsewhere in the frame, Keaton Grady scored on a passed ball, and Jake Bennett ripped an RBI double.

In the bottom of the fifth, Grant Jay left the yard for the team-leading 16th time this season, making it 11-4.

Nick Bonn relieved Borberg in the sixth, tossing two scoreless innings and striking out three.

Luke Heefner drove in the 12th run of the afternoon on an RBI groundout to plate Jake Bennett. In the bottom of the seventh, Humphreys jumped the yard for the third time this afternoon, marking the 15th homer of the weekend as a team.

Tyler Schott made an appearance in the top of the eighth, striking out two while tossing a scoreless frame.

In the bottom half, Michael Dattalo scampered home on a wild pitch to send the crowd home early.
