The 2024–2025 DBU Basketball season will forever hold a special place in the storied history of the program. In a year defined by milestone achievements and historic firsts, the Patriots etched their names into the national spotlight with a remarkable postseason run and a record-setting campaign under the leadership of Head Coach
Dr. Blake Flickner.
Historic Firsts in the NCAA Tournament
DBU captured its first-ever NCAA South Central Regional championship, advancing to the Elite Eight where they defeated Lake Superior State to punch their ticket to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in program history. The Patriots' postseason surge was made even more memorable by hosting the NCAA South Central Regional—another program first—thanks to a dominant regular season and a championship run through the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
A Record-Breaking Season
The Patriots set a new program standard with 34 wins, the most in a single season in school history. For the first time ever, DBU claimed both the Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament titles in the same year after posting a 19-3 record in conference play and clinching the LSC Championship at the Comerica Center in Frisco.
Defensively, the team stood alone atop Division II, leading the nation in turnovers forced per game (22.28) and steals per game (12.8). The season was also highlighted by individual achievements, including
Ricky Lujan becoming DBU's all-time leading scorer with 2,214 points and
Cameron Kahn setting a new program record for career rebounds (829).
