Patriots Finish 2025 Season With 11th Place Showing at NCAA Super Regional

THE RUNDOWN 
The Patriots finished the 2025 Super Regional tied for 11th after posting a 54-hole total of 12-under. DBU was led by junior Sam Jenkins and sophomore Brecken Franklin, who totaled four-under for the tournament to finish in 28th place.  

Robert Boyce led the team off with a front nine of 36, followed by a 37 to combine for a one-over 73. Sam Jenkins also posted a 73 in the final round, carding nine pars on the front nine, then a 38 on the back. Brecken Franklin had a nine-hole stretch at three under and finished the day with a 72, and Aston Castillo posted the Patriot low of 70 (-2) to boost himself to a three-under tournament finish to place 38th. 

No. 1 Colorado Christian carded a team score of 12-under in the final round to take the Super Regional Title by 14 strokes. CCU carded the lowest team score in round three at 12-under. Oklahoma Christian earned runners-up honors after a three-under round three. The Eagles posted the lowest team score of 19-under in the second round. CSU East Bay, St, Mary's, and CSU San Bernardino made up the rest of the top five, all of which will be advancing to the NCAA National Championship on May 19-23.  

On the individual side, Oklahoma Christians Oskari Nikku placed first at 17-under, followed by Colorado Christian's Sangha Park at 14-under. Adam Duncan and Xavier Bighaus of Colorado Christian and Chris Wardrup of CSUS rounded out the podium finishes tied at 12-under.  

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW 

  • DBU's best showing came in the first round where they posted an 18-hole total of nine-under. In round two, they carded a three-under 285, and in the final round, they were even par. 

  • Brecken Franklins and Sam Jenkins finished highest on the leaderboard for the Patriots at 28th place. They are the only two players on the team who competed in this event in 2024.   


INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

4- DBU finished fourth in the field in birdies, carding 61 in 54 holes.  

27- The Patriots found 27 birdies in the first round, which was the most of any other round this weekend. 

68- Brecken Franklin and Sam Jenkins posted the team's lowest score for the tournament in the first round after shooting four-under 68's.  

END OF SEASON STATISTICS 

  • The Patriots finished the season ranked No. 43 in the nation.  

  • DBU earned four top-five finishes on the year. A second place finish at The Hrnciar came on October 22, and a fifth place finish at the DBU Classic followed. They found another third place finish at the Rattler Invitational in February, then, at the Lone Star Conference Championship, they finished strokeplay in third and earned runners-up honors after falling to St. Mary's in the championship match.  

  • Aston Castillo and Sam Jenkins were named to the All-Lone Star Conference Second Team. Castillo, the graduate student transfer from Wichita State, earned two top-five individual finishes at the Hrnciar and DBU Classic (2nd). Sam Jenkins has three top-five finishes on his resumé for the 2025 season, finishing fifth at the Hrnciar, fifth at the DBU Classic, and 2nd at the Rattler Invitational.
