The Lady Patriots secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over St. Mary's on May 12 in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Preliminaries, earning the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA Sweet 16. Entering the national stage as the No. 6 seed, DBU carries a 23-4 overall record and a six-match winning streak into their upcoming showdown against Wayne State University.

The match, set to take place at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, marks the first-ever meeting between DBU and Wayne State and represents a significant milestone in DBU's rise as a national contender. This season is already the most successful in program history, highlighted by the team's first Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship and their highest national tournament seeding to date.

Their opponent, 11th-seeded Wayne State (13-4), advanced after a hard-fought 4-3 win over Tiffin in the NCAA Midwest Regional Final. The Warriors are no strangers to postseason play, now making their third straight NCAA Round of 16 appearance and continuing their run as one of the Midwest's premier programs. With both teams entering the Sweet 16 with momentum and milestones achieved, this historic matchup is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated clashes of the NCAA Division II Championships.

- DBU will face Wayne State on Wednesday.
- Wayne State competes at the NCAA Division II level in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and finished the regular season 13-4.
