DBU Baseball standout
Grant Jay has been named the Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a prestigious honor that recognizes excellence both on the field and in the classroom. Voted on by the league's 10 Faculty Athletic Representatives, the award is presented annually to the top student-athlete in each conference-sponsored sport based on academic performance, athletic achievement, and community service.
A junior from Semmes, Alabama, Jay carries a 3.74 GPA as a Kinesiology major and is a two-time selection to the CUSA All-Academic Team. He has also earned a place on the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of the past two years.
Jay's impact extends well beyond the classroom. On the diamond, he delivered another historic season in 2025, earning All-American honors for the second time in his career. He led the Patriots with 19 home runs, pushing his career total to 61 - a new program record, and also holds the DBU record for career slugging percentage (.684). Jay concluded his junior season with a .309 batting average, 17 doubles, 59 RBI, and 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts.
Jay becomes just the second Patriot to receive the CUSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor, joining
Ryan Johnson, who earned the distinction in 2024.
