DBU’s Humphreys Named SABR Metroplex Collegiate Player of the Year

DBU Baseball's Nathan Humphreys has been honored as the 32nd recipient of the Howard Green SABR Metroplex Collegiate Player of the Year Award, a prestigious distinction presented annually by the Ernie Banks-Bobby Bragan DFW Chapter of the Society of American Baseball Research. The award pays tribute to longtime SABR chapter founder and president Howard Green.

For Humphreys, a senior centerfielder from Midlothian, Texas, the recognition caps an outstanding career in which he became one of the most decorated players in DBU history. He is the 17th Patriot to earn the honor since its inception in 1993, more than any other school in the Metroplex.

In 2025, Humphreys turned in one of the best seasons of his career, earning Second Team All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association and being named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year for the second time. His stellar play helped lead DBU to the CUSA regular-season title and extend the program's streak to 11 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.

At the plate, Humphreys was one of the most productive hitters in the league. He led Conference USA in slugging percentage (.679), ranked second in RBI (69), and finished among the league's top 10 in nearly every major offensive category, including batting average (.353), home runs (17), hits (79), doubles (18), runs (68), and stolen bases (21).

A four-year starter, Humphreys' career numbers cement his place among DBU's all-time greats. He ranks third in program history in games played (225) and fifth in starts (211), while his name appears across 10 additional career statistical categories. He finished No. 2 in stolen bases (58) and stolen base attempts (68), No. 3 in walks (122), No. 6 in home runs (39) and runs scored (180), No. 7 in at-bats (781), No. 8 in RBI (163) and total bases (400), No. 9 in doubles (49), and No. 10 in hits (226).

Following his standout 2025 campaign, Humphreys signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, continuing his baseball journey at the professional level.

Since the Howard Green SABR Metroplex Collegiate Player of the Year Award's creation, 17 Patriots have earned the area's top collegiate baseball honor. Listed below are the award winners from DBU.
