DBU's Dominic Hamel Makes Major League Debut With New York Mets

DBU Baseball's Dominic Hamel realized a lifelong dream Wednesday night, making his Major League debut for the New York Mets at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Hamel, a 2021 All-American at DBU, came out of the bullpen in the sixth inning against the San Diego Padres. Despite allowing three hits, the right-hander held the Padres scoreless in his one inning of work, showcasing poise on one of baseball's biggest stages. The Mets would go on to fall, 7–4, but the night marked a milestone moment in Hamel's career.

During his time at DBU, Hamel was nothing short of dominant. Pitching for the Patriots from 2020–2021, he quickly rose to the role of staff ace and anchored DBU's run to the Columbia Super Regional in 2021. That season, Hamel etched his name in the program's record books, winning 13 games—the most by any Patriot in a single season—and striking out 136 batters, the second-highest mark in school history.

Following his standout campaign, Hamel was selected in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Mets. Now, just four years later, he joins a growing list of Patriots to reach the Major Leagues, becoming the 24th player from DBU to debut in the Big Leagues since 1987.
