COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
The DBU Men's Soccer team opens their 2025 campaign on the road at UT Tyler on Thursday night in Tyler, Texas. DBU is coming off a 6-5-8 campaign in 2024, finishing fifth in the LSC standings with a 4-3-3 record in league play.
Thursday's match marks the second straight year that DBU and UT Tyler will open the season against one another in a non-conference matchup. The two Patriot programs battled to a 1-1 draw in last year's opener.
The LSC preseason poll has DBU projected fourth in the conference standings, while UT Tyler was picked seventh out of 11 teams.
PATRIOT STORYLINES
Experience Returns: DBU brings back a veteran nucleus of 18 returners while adding a talented incoming class of 19 newcomers.
Transfer Impact: Eleven newcomers arrive with collegiate experience, while eight players will debut as true freshmen.
Replacing a Legend: DBU looks to fill the void left by program great
Peyton Voelker, the 2024 LSC Forward of the Year and the school's all-time leading scorer (32 goals).
Defensive Anchor: Evan Lupo, a senior center back and Second Team All-LSC pick, headlines the defense after leading the squad in minutes (1,680) last season.
Offensive Outlook: The Patriots ranked fifth in the LSC in scoring (1.42 goals per game) last season and will look to build on that attack.
Set Piece Success: DBU led the conference in corner kicks per game (5.37) in 2024, creating plenty of chances from dead-ball situations.
Chasing History: Senior forward
Gavyn Rosales enters the season tied for fourth on DBU's all-time scoring list with 13 goals, just one shy of tying Ethan Martinez (2017-2021) for third all-time.

Leo Larson will make his 57th career appearance Thursday, moving into ninth place in program history.
SCOUTING UT TYLER
- The Patriots finished 4-6-7 overall last season, going 2-2-6 in LSC play to place sixth in the league standings.
- Three All-LSC players return, including Third Team honorees Danny DeMarais and Oscar Sosa, as well as All-Freshman midfielder Diego Cruz.
- DeMarais, a senior from Wylie, Texas, led UT Tyler with five goals and 12 points last season.
- UT Tyler averaged 1.24 goals per game while posting a .410 shots-on-goal percentage in 2024.
- Defensively, they finished seventh in the LSC in goals against average (1.41).
SERIES HISTORY
UT Tyler holds a 6-3-2 advantage in the all-time series. The teams met twice last season, with both matches ending in draws - a 1-1 tie in the opener and a 3-3 shootout on October 2 in Tyler. DBU's last victory came on October 28, 2023, when the Patriots defeated UT Tyler 4-2 in Dallas. In matches played in Tyler, DBU holds a 2-3-1 record all-time.
