THE RUNDOWN
DBU (13-4, 7-0 LSC) took down Western New Mexico (10-4, 4-3 LSC) 74-62 on Saturday afternoon, pushing the Patriots' win streak to 11, and tying the program record for consecutive victories.
Drew Calderon led everyone on the floor with 15 points, while
Trevor Frank and two Mustangs finished with 14. Calderon was the most efficient at the free-throw line of any Patriot who had more than one attempt today (5-7).Â

Calderon opened the contest with a left-wing three, as DBU jumped to an 8-0 lead out of the gate. Western New Mexico would surge back into the game with a 10-0 run midway through the first half, and the two teams would exchange buckets during the middle stanza of the period. DBU would break the back-and-forth trend, responding with a 10-0 run of their own toward the end of the half. Entering the locker rooms, the Patriots held a 44-36 lead.Â

Xavion Brown opened the second half with a rim rocker, and DBU would maintain its lead for the rest of the game. The Mustangs came as close as four points, the product of a 7-0 run midway through the second half. Brown led the Patriots in points (6), rebounds (4), and steals (2) in the final 20 minutes to help put DBU's 11th consecutive win on ice.
