The No. 1 Patriots delivered a strong opening round at the Las Vegas Desert Classic on Friday at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. DBU finished the opening round in second place at four-under, just one stroke behind tournament leader St. Mary's.

The Patriots made an impressive showing across the individual leaderboard, with all six DBU golfers finishing inside the top 10. Ella Cheek (-1), Chloe Sirkin (-1), Gracie Grant (-1), Elle Pistana (-1), Madison Ude (-1), and Gaia Esparza (-1) each finished one-under, placing them in a six-way tie for eighth, three strokes off the individual lead.

Cheek led the Patriots with six birdies, the most by any DBU golfer in the opening round, while Ude added five birdies, including four consecutive birdies. Pistana provided one of the day's highlights, carding an eagle on the fifth hole, one of five eagles recorded across the tournament. The fifth hole proved especially favorable for DBU, as Cheek, Grant, and Ude each added a birdie. Esparza turned in a bogey-free front nine, while Pistana remained bogey-free on the back nine in round one.

Sitting just one stroke off the lead, the Patriots return to Boulder Creek Golf Club on Saturday for the second round of the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
