Basketball Increases Win Streak to Seven Games, Defeats UT Dallas 88-79

THE RUNDOWN
Saturday afternoon at the UT Dallas Activity Center in Richardson, DBU (22-6, 16-2 LSC) took down the Comets (6-19, 5-12 LSC) 88-79 to wrap up the Patriots' road portion of the regular season. Bishop Jones led the Patriots with 19 points, going 6-7 from the field and 7-11 from the line.

Xavion Brown opened the scoring with an inside bucket, kickstarting a back-and-forth opening stanza. Trailing 8-7, UT Dallas took the lead with a three-pointer and rode its momentum, building up its lead as the half progressed. The Comets would keep the Patriots at bay for the remainder of the opening 20 minutes, steadily maintaining a multi-possession lead. The Comets took a 33-28 advantage into the halftime break, leading by as much as nine.

Brown opened the second half with a layup, igniting a 10-0 DBU run that gave the Patriots a 38-33 lead with 16 minutes left in the game. Drew Calderon tied the game at 33 with a three-pointer before Jackson McCabe delivered the final lead change of the game. With 14 minutes left in the contest, Cody Stevens drilled a three-pointer to give the Patriots the first double-digit lead of the night. For the remainder of the game, the Comets weren't able to bring their deficit lower than five points, as the Patriots coasted to their 22nd win of the campaign.

Head coach Dr. Blake Flickner had this to say on the win: "Really proud of our guys today. They stayed connected and really responded in the second half. Big-time effort as a team. Bishop gave us a huge lift, and Junior was a real spark as well off the bench. Xavion also had some moments where he really took over and imposed his will. Excited to be back home and celebrate a special senior class this week with two home games at the Burg."
