THE RUNDOWN
Saturday afternoon, DBU (13-10, 3-2) defeated Delaware (10-13, 1-4) by a score of 10-2 in a key bounce-back spot, forcing a rubber match on Sunday. Patriot starter
Jared Schaeffer tossed the first quality start of the Patriots' season, tossing six scoreless innings and striking out five.

Schaeffer and Delaware's Doug Marose traded one-two-three halves in the first inning, but the Patriot bats would erupt for five runs in the top of the second.

Chayton Krauss,
Cooper Neville, and
Ryan Martin set the table for a
Mac Rose sac fly, immediately followed by a
Dylan Schlaegel three-run bomb. With the bases cleared and two gone in the inning,
Keaton Grady singled up the middle before scoring on
Jake Bennett's RBI double to the left-center gap.

Schaeffer tossed a scoreless bottom half before
Ryan Martin added to the DBU lead with a one-out solo home run in the top of the third.

Delaware would breach the run column in the bottom of the third via a Jeremy Wolf RBI single. After three innings, the Patriots led 6-1.

No runs would cross the plate in the fourth or fifth innings, as Schaeffer and Marose settled in towards the back end of their outings.

The Blue Hens went to their bullpen in the top of the sixth, and DBU immediately threatened with back-to-back walks drawn by
Ryan Martin and
Mac Rose. Later in the inning,
Keaton Grady doubled to the right-center gap, clearing the bases and making the score 8-1.

Jared Schaeffer would conclude his outing in the sixth, striking out Vincent Davis before rolling a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.

Liam Watt would relieve Schaeffer in the seventh and deliver two perfect innings out of the bullpen. Watt struck out three batters and preserved DBU's seven-run lead in his team-leading 12th appearance.

The Patriots added two more insurance runs in the ninth via a
Ryan Martin two-RBI single down the third base line.
David Heefner then made his DBU debut in the bottom of the ninth, striking out two as he put a lid on the Patriots' 13th win of the campaign.
