Pettitte Named CUSA Hitter of the Week

| By:
Luke Pettitte has been tabbed the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, announced by CUSA on Monday. Pettitte claims his first career Hitter of the Week award after leading the Patriots in batting average (.538) and slugging percentage (1.231) in DBU's series win over Jacksonville State.

The junior designated hitter strung together multiple hits in each game against the Gamecocks, mixing both average and power. Going 7-13 in the trio of contests, the product of Houston, Texas, reached base at a .538 clip, and four of his seven knocks went for extra bases, including a double, his first career triple, and two home runs. As part of a three-hit performance on Friday night, he launched one of the longest home runs in the history of Horner Ballpark, a 493-foot blast over the berm in left field. At the end of the week, Pettitte was tops on the team in batting average (.538), slugging percentage (1.231), hits (7), and total bases (16).

Pettitte is the third Patriot to receive the CUSA Hitter of the Week honor this season, joining Jake Bennett (March 16) and Chayton Krauss (April 20).

The power-hitting group and the rest of the DBU squad are back in action this week at the Conference USA Tournament in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Patriots are matched up with the host, Kennesaw State, on Wednesday, May 20, for their first game of pool play.
