Prospective Student-Athletes who are interested in participating in any of DBU's athletic programs should first complete the DBU recruiting survey for their sport. Each sports recruiting survey can be found on the "Recruits" tab. 

DBU Athletics encourages you to begin your DBU enrollment application to begin preparing for your time as a DBU student-athlete. 

If you are interested in becoming an NCAA student-athlete one of the first steps you will need to take is registering with the NCAA Eligibility Center. If you have any questions regarding the process of registering with the NCAA please feel free to contact the DBU Office of Athletic Compliance. 

Important Recruiting Terms and Definitions:

Prospective Student-Athlete: Any student who has entered the ninth grade (seventh grade for DII basketball).

Official Visit: A visit to a college campus paid in whole or in part by the institution. Official visits can be no longer than 48 hours. A prospective student-athlete is limited to one official visit per institution.

Unofficial Visit: A visit made to a college campus at the prospect's expense. The college may provide free tickets to an on-campus athletics event in which the college team competes. Transportation to view off-campus practice or competition sites within 30-mile radius is also allowable. There is no limit on the number of unofficial visits a prospect can make.

National Letter of Intent: Official documentation administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association and used by universities to establish a prospect's commitment to attend a certain university.

Recruiting Contact: Any face-to-face, off-campus encounter away from the University's campus between a prospect, prospect's parents (or legal guardian) or relative and a college staff employee or athletics representative away; if the conversation goes beyond a greeting.

Recruiting Evaluation: Any off-campus activity designed to assess a prospect's academic qualifications or athletic ability. (reviewing transcripts on the high school campus or watching practices / games)

Basic Points to Know:

Telephone Calls: Please note that coaches (except for football) are permitted to call a prospect one time during March of their junior year in high school. Subsequent phone calls are NOT allowed until July of your junior year and the specific dates will be determined by the sport in which you are being recruited. You are allowed to call the coaches at any time.

Letters and Other Correspondence: Coaches are not permitted to send prospects notes, letters, or other recruiting correspondence until September 1 of your junior year. They may, however, provide you a questionnaire, camp brochure, or NCAA educational information at any time.

In-Person Contacts: Coaches (except for football) are not permitted to have recruiting contact with a prospect until April of their junior year, when they are allowed to have only one contact at the prospect's school. They may have not other contact with prospects until July 1 after their junior year. For football prospects, coaches are not permitted to have contact until after July 1 after their junior year.
