Jon Shehan is in his first year as the associate head coach for DBU Baseball, joining the program in July 2026. Shehan comes to the Patriots after 19 seasons as the head coach at Millersville University, where he built one of the premier programs in college baseball.
Â
In his tenure with the Marauders, Shehan became the winningest coach in program history, posting a 680-303-1 record and a .692 winning percentage—the best in Millersville history, ninth-highest among all active Division II head coaches, and 21st-highest among all active NCAA coaches. After the Marauders went 9-37 in 2007, Shehan was named interim head coach for the 2008 season and immediately guided Millersville to its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division Championship in eight years. That winning carried into the postseason for years to come, where the Marauders made 13 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2013 to 2026 and 14 overall under his leadership. In those 14 trips, Shehan led Millersville to three Atlantic Regional Championships and two trips to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, including a 2016 squad that finished as the national runner-up and set a PSAC record with 53 wins. The Marauders also captured 11 PSAC East Regular Season Championships and three PSAC Tournament titles with Shehan at the helm.
Â
A five-time Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, seven-time PSAC East Coach of the Year, and the 2016 HERO Sports Division II Coach of the Year, Shehan has developed some of the best talent in the country, producing 19 All-America selections, 61 All-Atlantic Region picks, 95 All-PSAC East honorees, and 10 MLB Draft picks, including nine-year active Big Leaguer Tim Mayza of the Philadelphia Phillies and Chas McCormick, who played five years with the Houston Astros and is currently in Triple-A in the Chicago Cubs organization. Shehan also coached three Atlantic Region Pitchers of the Year, two Atlantic Region Players of the Year, seven PSAC East Pitchers of the Year, and five PSAC East Players of the Year.
Â
While at Millersville, Shehan consistently built some of the most dominant pitching staffs in the country. In 2026, Millersville ranked among the national top 25 in six categories, including seventh in ERA (4.04) and hits allowed per nine innings (8.24), ninth in shutouts (6), 14th in WHIP (1.38), 18th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.11), and 23rd in strikeouts per nine innings (8.83). Marauder pitching posted top-25 figures in ERA, WHIP, and hits allowed per nine innings in each season from 2023 to 2026.
Â
His offenses were equally impressive. Millersville batted better than .300 every season from 2019 to 2025, and the 2022 club set program records in extra-base hits (199), doubles (127), home runs (58), slugging percentage (.502), and walks (269). The 2016 Marauder offense was among the most dominant in the country, ranking in the national top 10 in six categories, including third in runs (512) and batting average (.348), fourth in hits (681) and stolen bases (136), fifth in on-base percentage (.431), and sixth in walks (266).
Â
In the field, Shehan worked with some of the best gloves in the country. He coached 11 Atlantic Region Gold Glove Award winners, including National Gold Glove Award recipient Mitch Stoltzfus in 2016.
Â
Before taking the reins of the Millersville program, Shehan was the Marauders’ assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for two years. In 2006, he helped the offense improve in almost every statistical category, including batting average (.267 to .307), on-base percentage (.339 to .372), slugging percentage (.360 to .424), and home runs (12 to 26).
Â
Shehan played collegiately at Millersville and established himself as one of the program’s all-time best catchers. In 2004, he earned All-PSAC First Team recognition after leading the country in doubles per game (0.60) and setting the program single-season record for doubles with 23. Following the 2004 season, he signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves and played two years of minor league baseball, where he won the Appalachian League Eastern Division as a member of the Danville Braves in 2005. During his time in the professional ranks, he also served as the catching instructor at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, the 2005 Pennsylvania 3A State Champions.
Â
Shehan is a two-time graduate of Millersville University, earning a bachelor's degree in Technology Education in 2006 and a master’s degree in Sport Management in 2013. He is married to his wife, Lindsay, and the couple has two sons, Cole and Benjamin.
