Mattie Royal

Mattie Royal is in her second year as the Assistant Coach for the DBU Cheer and STUNT teams. In the 2024 regular STUNT season, Royal stepped in for Head Coach Callie Taylor’s maternity leave. The Patriots went 8-2 in the regular season, with two huge wins over Texas (15-10) and Vanguard (14-10). Together, Royal and Coach Taylor led the STUNT team to win the first ever inaugural Lone Star Conference STUNT Championship and took home Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.

At the collegiate level, Royal received the Timothy Athletic award her junior year, and the Athletic Standout award following her senior season. For two years straight she also received the HFCA award for embodying the core values of a DBU Cheerleader. Royal was also voted captain of the Cheer & STUNT teams her junior and senior year and was named a first team STUNT All American in the 2021 season. She also has seven years of experience working for the National Cheerleaders Association as a Head Instructor.
 
In 2021, Royal captained the DBU Cheer team to win their first ever NCA Collegiate National Title in Intermediate All Girl Division II. Since then, the DBU Intermediate All Girl team has won four straight National Championships. In 2023 and 2024, Royal assisted Head Coach Taylor by creating an additional team and coming home with two more national titles in the Game Day Division II.

From 2021-2024, Royal has assisted Head Coach Callie Taylor in leading DBU to four straight appearances in the STUNT National Championships. In 2024, the Patriots finished the season 8-2 in the regular season and Nationally ranked in the top four. Royal was named the first full-time Assistant Coach for the DBU Cheer and STUNT program following her graduation in 2023. 

Royal graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Royal graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Masters of Arts in Communications with a concentration in Leadership.
