Biography
Ashley Alford, who is a sophomore distance runner for the Dallas Baptist University Patriots Cross Country and Track teams, is the Athlete Spotlight for the month of April. Alford is a two-time NCCAA Indoor Track and Field Champion and was a member of the 2007 Dallas Baptist University Patriots Heartland Conference Championship team.
During the 2007 cross country season Alford was honored as FirstTeam Heartland Conference and was awarded All-American as a part of the women's fourth place NCCAA National Team.
In track, Alford specializes in the middle distance events including the 400 meters, the 800 meters, and the mile. Alford has been the 800m leg on back to back NCCAA National Championship DMR squads, as well as an individual qualifier in the 800 meters and 1500 meter events. In 2008 Alford is looking to run the NCAA Division II qualifying standard in the 800m and compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships in Walnut, California.
Thus far into the Outdoor Season, Alford has qualified in the 800m with her fifth place performance and personal best of 2:21 at the Baylor University/Dr. Pepper Invite.
Head Coach Jacob Phillips said, "Ashley has worked really hard this year to have a shot at the NCAA Division II qualifying standard. She sets an example of hard work and has been great with helping along the development of our younger runners. She's been a blessing to coach in these two years that she's been a part of the program."
