John Millsap is the Athlete Spotlight for the month of September.  Millsap is a Sophomore from Spring Branch, Texas, and is a member of the Patriots Cross Country and Track teams.  Millsap came to the Patriots after a very successful high school career as a part of the FEAST Home School Cross Country and Track programs.  Not only was he a successful athlete, he also excelled in the classroom and was a National Merit Scholar finalist.

As a Freshman, Millsap was named First Team All-Conference for his eighth place finish at the Heartland Conference Cross Country Championships.  His performance helped lead the Patriots to a second place finish in the Heartland Conference Championships in 2008.

During the 2009 track season, he qualified individually for the NCCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships in the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters.  His 5000 meters time of 15.27.50 is a record among DBU freshmen.

During the NCCAA Indoor Championships, Millsap finished in fourth place, just missing All-American honors in the 5000 meters.  His fourth place finish was just .3 seconds behind the third place finisher.

"John came in as a freshman and quickly adapted to our program," said Head Coach Jacob Phillips, "He decided from day one that he was going to do everything that was asked of him and it obviously worked as he progressed throughout 2008 and 2009.  This Cross Country season will be exciting as he is one of the favorites for the Individual Conference Championship in October."
