Austin Wills is in his first season as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer team, joining the staff in the spring of 2026. He brings both playing and coaching experience to DBU after a decorated tenure at Hardin-Simmons University.
Wills joins the Patriots after two years as an assistant coach at HSU. He was a part of a program that made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and claimed back-to-back American Southwest Conference Tournament titles, including the school’s first in 10 years. In 2024, he helped guide the Cowboys to a 12-win season in which the team tallied a program-record 46 goals and owned the best goal differential in the conference at +21.
Before his coaching career, Wills was a midfielder and defender for HSU from 2018 to 2022. A three-year captain for the Cowboys, he started all 85 games he appeared in and set the program and ASC records for games played and games started. Scoring 10 goals in his career, he also delivered 13 assists, good for 7th all-time at HSU. Wills also established himself as one of the ASC’s top players, becoming one of just four players in league history to earn all-conference honors five times. He also took a spot on the ASC All-Academic Team in each of his five seasons.
Wills graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and Marketing in 2022 and a Master of Business Administration in 2023 from Hardin-Simmons University. He also holds a US Soccer C License for coaching. He is married to his wife, Logan.
