Jess Jobe is in his fifth season as head coach of the DBU Men’s Soccer program, where he has quickly established the Patriots as a rising contender in the Lone Star Conference. Since taking over in 2021, Jobe has guided DBU to three straight LSC Tournament appearances, including the program’s first trip to the championship match in 2023, and produced five All-South Central Region selections along with 21 All-LSC honorees.
The 2024 campaign marked another milestone under Jobe’s leadership, as DBU posted its second winning season in three years with a 6-5-8 record. That season also saw forward Peyton Voelker, the program’s all-time leading goal scorer, become the first player in program history to earn LSC Forward of the Year honors. In the LSC Tournament, DBU defeated West Texas A&M to reach the semifinals, where they eventually fell in penalty kicks to No. 11 St. Mary’s.
In 2023, Jobe led DBU to a third-place regular-season finish and their first-ever home postseason match. The Patriots advanced to the LSC Championship following back-to-back victories in penalty shootouts, including a dramatic win over West Texas A&M. At season’s end, Voelker earned D2CCA First Team All-Region honors, while five players landed on the All-LSC squad.
The 2022 season was a breakthrough year, as DBU recorded the first winning record in program history (7-6-5) and finished second in the LSC standings. That same year, Voelker and Ethan Unger became the program’s first Academic All-Americans.
In his first year at the helm in 2021, Jobe guided DBU to a five-win season, the most wins for the Patriots in a season since 2017. Among the highlights for DBU in 2021 included a 2-1 overtime victory over St. Mary’s in San Antonio and a near upset of No. 15 West Texas A&M in an overtime thriller. At season’s end, the Patriots fell one win shy of reaching the LSC Tournament for the first time in program history. Following the 2021 season, Payton Franklin was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year.
Prior to his time with DBU Men’s Soccer, Jobe spent three years as co-head coach of the Northwestern State University women’s program (2018–20). There, he compiled a 32-21-3 record, guided the Lady Demons to their first Southland Conference Championship appearance since 2005, and was named Co-Louisiana Coach of the Year in 2019 alongside his wife, Anna.
Jobe's squad had five players named to the All-Southland Conference teams in 2019, led by Southland Conference Defender of the Year Nicole Henry. The defense was the calling card in 2019, allowing just 1.27 goals and 8.5 shots per game. The Lady Demons surrendered one goal or fewer 17 times in 22 matches and registered eight shutouts, the most in a season for NSU since 2009.
In his first season in Natchitoches in 2018, Jobe’s squad won 10 matches and reached the SLC Tournament. Before the 2018 season, NSU had only made one appearance in the SLC Tournament.
In 2018, Jobe coached All-Southland Conference selection April Trowbridge (league-best 13 goals, tied for 13th in the nation at the end of the regular season) as she led an offense that finished 30th in the nation with 2.10 goals per game.
Jobe is no stranger to DBU, having previously served on the Patriots’ women’s soccer staff from 2011–17, including two years as associate head coach. During his tenure, DBU became a perennial national contender, advancing to six NCAA Tournaments, reaching the Sweet 16 twice, and capturing four conference championships. He also helped develop five All-Americans and 55 All-Conference selections during that span.
His coaching résumé also includes a season as goalkeeper coach at the University of North Texas (2010). Additionally, Jobe has been involved with the North Texas State Olympic Development Program (2010-14), the U.S. Soccer Olympic Development Program (2012-15), and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (2016 to present). His coaching licenses include an Advanced National Goalkeeper Diploma (2015), an Advanced National Coaching Diploma (2014), and a USSF Level ‘D’ Coaching License (2009).
As a player, Jobe began his career at Georgia Southern before transferring to Fontbonne University, where he earned all-conference honors three times—twice as a goalkeeper and once as a midfielder. Following his playing career at Fontbonne, he served as a student assistant coach and recruiter in 2009.
A native of Denton, Texas, Jobe earned his B.S. in Sports Management from Fontbonne (2009) and his Masters of Education in Kinesiology from DBU (2014). He and his wife, Anna, were married in 2016 and are the proud parents of Sterling and Josephine.
