Leadership is often measured in metrics, but after two decades in the weight room, David Trevino has found that his true work lies in helping people achieve what they cannot reach on their own. David approaches his career as a stewardship—believing that his position at Dallas Baptist University is a divine placement intended to serve others and advance a greater kingdom. For David, success isn't just about physical output; the weight room is a classroom for character, and every season is an opportunity to foster transformative relationships that extend far beyond the field of play.
Now in his eleventh year as the Director of Athletic Performance for DBU, David’s influence is woven into the fabric of the University’s athletic success. He has been a part of at least one championship team every year of his career, a testament to his belief that high standards and high-trust cultures produce winning results.
David oversees the comprehensive physical preparation for 12 Lone Star Conference teams, three club sports, manages a staff of four performance coaches, and oversees the 5,000-square-foot Athletic Training Center. During his tenure, he has spearheaded significant technological and physical modernizations, ensuring DBU athletes are training and fueling at an elite level. His commitment to the next generation of coaches is evident in his mentorship of over 10 coaches into advanced career roles and his work as a Kinesiology adjunct instructor, teaching courses in Periodization, Biomechanics, and Strength & Conditioning, where he bridges the gap between scientific theory and elite application.
David’s philosophy was refined in the highest tiers of the profession. Before joining the Patriots, he served as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of North Texas (2011–2016), where he also coordinated the department’s mentorship and internship programs. His professional pedigree also includes a tenure in the NFL with the New York Jets (2010–2011), where he managed the developmental training program and advanced physiological monitoring for world-class athletes.
His foundational years were marked by a deep commitment to learning, including a two-year graduate internship at Texas A&M and specialized training at premier private facilities, including Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, Velocity Sports Performance, and Athletes’ Performance (Exos).
A graduate of Texas A&M (M.S. in Kinesiology) and the University of North Texas (B.S. in Kinesiology), David is professionally certified through the CSCCa (SCCC) and the NSCA (CSCS), with additional specializations in Precision Nutrition (Level 1) and Bioforce Conditioning.
Originally making North Texas his home in 2003, David now resides in Midlothian with his wife, Brittiny, and their two children, Jesse and Josie. The Trevino family are active members of Stonegate Church, where they continue their commitment to faith and community.
