Justin Slovak enters his first year as a Graduate Student Assistant for the DBU Women’s Soccer team. Slovak recently returned to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2016 after working in the restaurant business in Tyler, Texas, since 2011. In Tyler, Justin stayed very busy being involved with the operations of Nayfa Holdings LLC; he assisted with the opening of two restaurants and acted as the general manager of Fuzzy’s Taco Shop. In the spring of 2016, he began to feel God calling him in a different direction and away from Tyler. With prayer, faith, and community counsel he knew God was quietly reigniting his passion for athletics and preparing him for a change.
God reintroduced soccer into his life, and has allowed for opportunity to utilize and share experiences as a player and as a coach at the high school, and recreational levels. He was involved with the 2011 Girls Class 4A State semifinalist as a volunteer assistant coach at Billy Ryan High School in Denton, Texas. In addition, he served the goalkeeper coach for both the boys and girls teams. Justin aided the girls varsity goalkeeper in earning District Goalkeeper of Year honors in 2011.
Slovak earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Biology with the honor of Cum Laude at Texas Woman’s University in 2010. During his time as a student at TWU, Justin served as the student manager for the women’s soccer team and assisted in the athletic training program. In 2008, he was awarded the Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Student Academic Award.
When he is not on the field, studying, or in the office, Justin embraces the responsibilities of maintaining a healthy lifestyle that requires thought and effort. He takes joy in listening to sermons from the Village, playing ice hockey, interacting with friends and family, and pursuing community and personal growth. His favorite Bible verse is Matthew 22:37-39.
