Beginning the season on a program-record 16-game winning streak, DBU claimed its sixth LSC Regular Season Championship and its third with Wood as head coach. The Patriots added the LSC Tournament Championship with a win over Texas Woman’s in the title match and hosted the South Central Regional Tournament for the eighth time in school history. With NCAA Tournament victories over Texas Woman’s and No. 14 UCCS, the Patriots advanced to the Elite 8 for the third time ever and the first time in Wood’s tenure, ultimately losing to No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona. The Patriots finished the season with a 20-2-0 record and ranked No. 5 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches, their highest final ranking under Wood.

DBU’s 2024 campaign saw the Patriots advance to the South Central Regional as the No. 3 seed after a runner-up finish in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings. In postseason play, DBU defeated MSU Denver in the first round of the South Central Regional before falling in a hard-fought 1-0 battle to Angelo State in the second round. The Patriots closed the year with a 16-3-3 overall record and finished the season ranked No. 15 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches.

Despite falling to UC Colorado Springs in round two of the NCAA Tournament, the Patriots finished the year with a 14-1-4 record and were ranked No. 19 in the final United Soccer Coaches Poll.

In his first season at DBU in 2022, Wood was named the LSC Coach of the Year after guiding the Patriots to a 17-2-1 record and both the conference regular season and tournament titles. DBU claimed the top spot in the United Soccer Coaches poll entering the third week of the season and remained the No. 1-ranked team in the nation entering the postseason. After earning the top seed in the South Central Region, DBU’s season culminated with its fourth consecutive trip to the Sweet 16, where the Patriots eventually fell in the regional finals. DBU finished the season ranked No. 7 in the nation, tying the 2015 and 2020 teams for the second-highest end-of-season ranking in school history.
