During his tenure at Joshua, he served two years as the football team's defensive coordinator while also leading the school's powerlifting program. Ratcliff was instrumental in launching the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at Joshua High School and was honored as the Greater Fort Worth FCA Coach of the Year in 2011, receiving the Jim Wacker Award.

Prior to coaching, Ratcliff built an extensive background in sports broadcasting. In 1999, he served as Director of Broadcasting for the Southern Oregon Timberjacks, the Short Season Class A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. In 2000, he helped establish the Nauticom Sports Network, where he developed a statewide network of radio affiliates broadcasting Texas high school sports online. Ratcliff later returned to his alma mater to broadcast Baylor Baseball for two seasons on the Baylor Radio Network.

In addition to his responsibilities at DBU, Ratcliff broadcasts Texas high school football for Champion Sports Radio and Dave Campbell's Texan Live. He was on the call for Duncanville High School's Class 6A Division I state championship seasons in both 2022 and 2023, as the Panthers finished each year ranked among the nation's top 10 by USA Today.

Ratcliff is a member of the College Sports Communicators and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). He also serves as an adjunct professor at DBU, teaching Media Announcing in the College of Fine Arts.
