Box Score

The Dallas Baptist men's basketball team headed to San Antonio Thursday evening with hopes of knocking off the University of the Incarnate Word, and taking sole possession of second place in the Heartland Conference. Instead, the Patriots (10-7) fell to the Cardinals, 93-73, and remain in third place with a 4-3 record in conference play.

Coming off a game in which they connected on 11 three-point attempts, the Patriots struggled to find their rhythm against an athletic Cardinal defense which limited them to only 31.1 percent from the field.

After the Cardinals jumped out to an early 11-2 advantage, Senior Bryan Baumann's three-pointer capped a 7-0 run that pulled the Patriots to within two. Not to be outdone, the Cardinals used a run of their own, scoring nine straight to take a 20-9 lead at the 10:59 mark. Erik Stewart's dunk with two minutes left in the first half pushed the Cardinal lead to 20.

The Patriot offense continued to struggle throughout the second half. Two free throws by Sophomore Armie Lewis brought the Patriots to within 16 with 6:50 left to go in the game, but that is as close as they would get. Deleon Hines layup less than a minute later pushed the Cardinal advantage back to 20.

Baumann led the way for the Patriots with 14 points. Junior Braxton Adamson and Sophomore Jordan McGowen scored 13 and 11, respectively.

The Cardinals had five players in double figures led by Tracy Robinson who had 20 points and six rebounds.

The Patriots wrap up their four game road trip Saturday afternoon when they take on St. Mary's University at 2:00 p.m.
