Box Score

Senior Heath Wiechman and Sophomore Jordan McGowen scored 14 points apiece, but the Dallas Baptist Patriots Men's Basketball Team fell to St. Mary's University on Saturday afternoon, 75-69. The loss drops the Patriots (10-8) to fourth place in the Heartland Conference with a record of 4-4.

The Rattlers (10-8, 5-3) led most of the first half before the Patriots took a 26-23 lead on a three by Junior Braxton Adamson with 4:11 left on the clock. Wiechman's tip-in with nine seconds to go on a missed jumper by Freshman BJ Dale, gave the Patriots a 31-26 lead at the break.

A made free throw by McGowen at the 15:44 mark in the second half capped a 12-4 DBU run and gave the Patriots their biggest lead of the night, 43-32. The Rattlers slowly chipped away at the Patriot lead over the next six minutes and used their own 10-1 run to take a 50-48 lead with 9:47 left to play.

Two free throws by Senior Eddie Gloviak gave the advantage back to the Patriots a few seconds later before St. May's Curtis Mitchell caught fire. The guard scored nine points over the next four minutes of play, giving his team a 64-56 lead, their biggest of the night. Dallas Baptist pulled to within three after McGowen's three-pointer with 31 seconds remaining, but the Rattlers connected on 5-6 free throws to seal the win, 75-69.

The Rattlers shot 79 percent in the second half, only missing four shots, and outscoring the Patriots by 11. Four Rattler players were in double figures with Mitchell leading the way with 21 points.

Lewis ended the afternoon with 12 points while Gloviak chipped in 10 points for the Patriots.

The game marks the halfway point of conference play for Dallas Baptist as they prepare to host Texas A&M International again on Thursday, January 28. The Patriots defeated the Dustdevils, 71-66, in Laredo back on January 4. Game time on Thursday is slated for 7:00 p.m.
