Box Score

Armie Lewis knocked down two free throws with 10.3 seconds left, sending the game to overtime, as the Patriots pulled out a narrow victory over the St. Edward's Hilltoppers on Saturday afternoon, 83-80. With the win, DBU (12-8) takes sole possession of third place in the Heartland Conference with a record of 6-4.

The Patriots jumped out to an early 19-7 lead, after Jordan McGowen knocked down his second three-pointer with 9:09 left in the first half. McGowen started off strong as he scored 11 of DBU's first 19 points.

The Hilltoppers came roaring back behind the play of Reggie Shanks. The Hilltopper forward scored nine straight points, as he connected on three three-pointers in just 39 seconds. A basket by Bobby Watkins capped the 11-point run, and gave the Hilltoppers a 23-22 lead at the 5:17 mark.

After trailing by two at halftime, the Hilltoppers came out strong in the second half and took a quick 44-37 lead. The Patriots fought to come back, but the Hilltoppers connected on three more three-pointers, and took a 65-54 lead with 5:45 left to play. The 11-point lead was the biggest of the night for the Hilltoppers.

Refusing to give in, the Patriots cut their deficit to six after a jumper by Eddie Gloviak with 1:56 remaining. Full court pressure forced three Hilltopper turnovers in the final minute, with McGowen coming up with a key steal to set up the Patriots final possession. Trailing by two, Lewis was fouled by Shanks on his drive to the basket. With 10.3 seconds left on the clock, the Patriot sophomore calmly knocked down both free throws, capping a remarkable comeback, and sending the game to overtime.

The Patriots outscored the Hilltoppers by three in the extra period to complete the come-from-behind victory.

Gloviak finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds, while McGowen ended with 17 and eight. Adamson chipped in 10 for the Patriots.

Reggie Shanks and Jeff Miner posted 24 and 22 points, respectively, for the Hilltoppers.

The Patriots are back in action on Saturday, February 6, as they travel to Ft. Smith, Arkansas to take on the Lions from the University of Arkansas-Ft. Smith. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
