Head Coach
Blake Flickner and the Dallas Baptist Patriot Basketball Team can now enjoy their Christmas break, after knocking off the visiting Crusaders from Dallas Christian on Saturday afternoon, 88-77. DBU moves to 7-3 with the win, with only two games remaining on their non-conference schedule.
Braxton Adamson scored 22 points in the first half, and finished with a career-high 37 points, to lead the Patriots to their fifth double-digit win of the year. The Senior from Rockwall, Texas, was red hot from behind the 3-point line, connecting on seven of his ten attempts from behind the arc.
After a sluggish start that left DBU trailing 7-3 after the first three minutes, Adamson started to heat up. He connected on two 3-pointers and a jumper, all in less than a minute of action, to give the Patriots a 17-11 lead at the 14:16 mark.
The Patriots continued to extend their lead throughout the opening period, and took a 13-point lead at the half thanks to yet another jumper from Adamson.
A jumper by Sophomore
Nick Fox gave the Patriots their biggest lead of the night early in the second half, 53-35, but the visiting Crusaders refused to give in.
Trailing by 12 with 6:48 left on the clock, Dallas Christian mounted an 8-0 run over the next minute of play to pull within four. A pair of free throws from Junior
Armie Lewis stopped the bleeding temporarily for DBU, but a jumper from Dallas Christian's Anthony Tubbs trimmed the Crusader deficit to only three points with four minutes to play.
The Patriots responded with a pair of free throws from Adamson, and a three-point play from Senior
Jared Whitmire as he was fouled on his break-away layup. A 3-pointer from Lewis and another jumper from Adamson put the game away for the Patriots as they pushed their lead back to 11 with only a minute left on the clock.
Junior T.J. Clark finished with 12 points and five assists for DBU, while Lewis and Junior
Jordan McGowen each chipped in 10.
The Patriots will now have an 11-day break for the Christmas Holidays before returning to action on December 30 against Schreiner University. Game time that Thursday is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Burg Center.
