After an eleven day break for the Christmas Holidays, the Dallas Baptist Patriot Basketball Team rolled to an easy victory over Schreiner University, 95-75, Thursday afternoon at the Burg Center. The win moves the Patriots to 8-3 on the season, with Heartland Conference play starting in less than two weeks.
The two teams remained even through the first six minutes of action, before Freshman
Russ Johnson sparked a 17-3 run for the Patriots. DBU scored 14 unanswered during the run, capped by a pair of jumpers from Sophomore
Nick Fox and a bucket from Junior T.J. Clark. The result was a 28-13 lead for the Patriots with 7:25 left in the first half.
Still holding a 15 point advantage at the break, the Patriots extended their lead to 20 after the first ten minutes of the second half. Two consecutive jumpers by Freshman
Ryan Marsh gave DBU a 65-45 advantage with 11:09 left in the game.
The Mountaineers trimmed their deficit to 10, thanks to back-to-back three pointers from Riley Battle, but that's as close as the game would get. DBU outscored the Mountaineers, 24-15, over the final seven minutes, sealing the 95-75 win.
The Patriots had five players in double figures, led by Fox who scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Marsh finished with a career-high 14 while Junior
Jordan McGowen added 11 points and nine rebounds. Senior
Braxton Adamson and Johnson each chipped in ten points apiece.
The Patriots will hit the road for a rematch against Abilene Christian on Monday, January 3. DBU defeated the Wildcats, 90-86 back on November 15. Game time on Monday is set for 7:00 p.m.
