The Dallas Baptist Patriot Basketball Team rolled to their second double-digit win in a row on Saturday evening, picking up a 60-40 victory over the University of Arkansas-Monticello. DBU improves to 6-2 on the season with the win.
Junior
Jordan McGowen picked up his first double-double of the season, finishing with a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Sophomore
Nick Fox ended with 16 points and eight rebounds of his own. The Patriots shot 46.7 percent from the field and an impressive 53.8 percent from behind the three-point line, including a perfect three-for-three in the second half.
DBU never trailed in the game, opening up a quick 20-2 lead after the first ten minutes of play. McGowen got off to a hot start, scoring the first seven Patriot points, as DBU put the game away early. The Patriots limited the Weevils, who are averaging 78.5 points per game this season, to only 16 points in the first half.
The second half was much of the same for the Patriots, as they pushed their lead out to as much as 26 on four separate occasions. A jumper by Fox gave DBU a 48-22 advantage with 12:53 remaining on the clock. Seniors
Jared Whitmire and
Braxton Adamson closed out the game with a three-pointer and a pair of free throws, respectively, giving the Patriots the 60-40 win.
DBU will return to action on Tuesday, December 7, as they travel to Ada, Oklahoma, to take on East Central University. The Patriots had no troubles with the Tigers earlier in the season, winning 78-66 back on November 23. Tuesday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
