Box Score
The Dallas Baptist University Patriots picked up their third consecutive win Saturday afternoon, by knocking off the Lions from UA-Fort Smith, 95-76. The Lions' provisional Division II membership status prohibits them from competing for conference championships, so the Patriots (13-8) remain at 6-4 in Heartland Conference play.
After jumping out to an early 10-point lead on a
Bryan Baumann layup, the Patriots withstood a late Lion surge midway through the first half.
Heath Wiechman's free throw with 3:56 left on the clock ended a five minute scoring drought for the Patriots, and knotted the game at 24. DBU closed out the first half with a 12-0 run, and took a 34-24 lead into halftime.
The Patriots set the tone early in the second half, after
Braxton Adamson and Baumann connected on back-to-back three pointers on DBU's first two possessions. Another Adamson three less than two minutes later gave the Patriots a 17-point advantage with 16:48 left to play. The junior from Rockwall, TX couldn't seem to miss as he connected on yet another three-pointer a few possessions later, giving the Patriots their biggest lead of the night, 58-34.
DBU never looked back as they went on to shoot 58.8 percent from behind the arc in the second half, connecting on 10 three-pointers, and sealing the 95-76 win. Adamson accounted for six Patriot treys in the second half alone, and ended with a game-high 26 points.
Jordan McGowen shot 9 for 11 from the free throw line, and finished with 20 points and five rebounds. Baumann, the Patriots leading scorer, turned in another solid performance with 18 points and seven rebounds.
The Patriots continue Heartland Conference play on Thursday, February 11, when they travel to Odessa, TX to take on UT-Permian Basin. DBU won the first matchup against the Falcons, 65-61, back on January 9. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
