Patriots Drop NCCAA Tournament Opener

The DBU Patriot Basketball Team lost their opening round game of the NCCAA Tournament Thursday evening, to Southwestern Assemblies of God University, 92-87. The loss drops the Patriots to 18-12 on the season.

After falling behind early in the first half, the Patriots used their pressure defense to force 22 Lion turnovers. The Lions hit big shots down the stretch, including six three-pointers in the second half, to maintain their advantage.

Still trailing late in the game, Sophomore Armie Lewis stole the inbounds pass and dished to Junior Braxton Adamson for a layup that tied the game. After giving up a three by the Lions, Senior Bryan Baumann connected on a three-pointer of his own to knot the game once again.

The Lions, playing in front of their home crowd, remained calm and connected on their free throws to seal the five point victory.

Senior Eddie Gloviak led the Patriots with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Sophomore Jordan McGowen followed closely behind with 20 points.

The Patriots must know wait to find out if they will receive an at-large bid for the NCCAA National Tournament held in Oakland City, Indiana. The tournament is set to begin March 18.
