The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team closed out the series against Seattle University Saturday afternoon, with a 6-2 win over the Redhawks. The Patriots move to 23-16 as they prepare to take on the University of Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior
Ryan Millard pitched six and a third innings, and only allowed two runs, but it was Junior Reliever Jarrod Stafford who picked up the win for the Patriots. Stafford pitched two and two thirds innings, allowing only one hit and no runs, for his second win of the season.
After Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Patriots evened the score in the third. Junior
Tyler Robbins led off with a single, stole second, and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Senior
Austin Knight then picked up his 33rd RBI of the season, with a single up the middle, pushing Robbins across the plate.
The Redhawks regained the lead in the seventh with a RBI single, making it a 2-1 game, but Freshman
Duncan McAlpine responded for the Patriots in the top of the eighth.
Junior
Jason Krizan led off with a single and advanced to third on a ground-rule double by Senior
Ryan Enos. Sophomore
Ryan Behmanesh was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. McAlpine stepped to the plate, and on the 2-0 pitch, delivered a four run, grand slam homerun. A double by Knight later in the inning, scored Haney who had reached on a walk, making it 6-2.
McAlpine's 11th homerun of the season turned out to be the game winner, as Stafford held the Redhawks scoreless in the final inning, to clinch the three game series for DBU.
The Patriots will travel to Norman, Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 27, as they take on the University of Oklahoma. The Patriots dropped the first match-up against the Sooners, 4-8, back on March 9. Tuesday's game is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
