Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team traveled to Fresno, California on Thursday, for a three game series against Fresno State University. The Patriots captured game one from the Bulldogs with a 13-9 victory, and with the win, improve to 24-17 on the season.

Junior Jared Stafford picked up his fourth win of the season, after pitching four innings, allowing three runs on three hits, and striking out five.

After a scoreless first, the Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second off the bat of Junior Logan Moro. Sophomore Ryan Behmanesh led off the inning with a walk, later advanced to second, and finally scored when Moro connected on a single to center field, giving the Patriots the early lead.

A two run second by the Bulldogs gave the lead back to Fresno State, but the Patriots responded in the third with another run to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs and no men on, Freshman Austin Elkins hit his seventh homerun of the season, a solo shot to right field, to even the game.

The tie game didn't last long, as Fresno hit back-to-back homeruns to lead off the bottom of the third, chasing Lane from the mound, and giving the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead. A single later in the inning made it a 5-2 lead for the Bulldogs.

Senior Ryan Enos doubled in the fifth and later scored for the Patriots on a RBI single by Behmanesh, his 33rd RBI of the season, to trim the deficit to 5-3.

The Patriots finally regained the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs. Moro scored on a wild pitch, and Enos picked up two RBI later in the inning with a single, scoring Junior Tyler Robbins and Senior Austin Knight, giving the Patriots the 6-5 advantage.

With the game tied 6-6, the Patriots moved in front again in the eighth, scoring two runs. With runners on second and third and only one out, Junior Jason Krizan grounded out to second base, scoring Knight. Enos picked up yet another RBI on a single to score Robbins, giving the Patriots an 8-6 lead heading into the ninth.

Robbins gave the Patriots a little more breathing room in the top of the ninth with his 31st RBI of the season, a single to right field, to make it a 9-6 game, but Fresno responded in the bottom of the inning. The Bulldogs blasted two homeruns to tie the game at nine, and send it to extra innings.

With two men on in the tenth, Freshman Duncan McAlpine stepped to the plate and delivered his 12th homerun of the season to give the Patriots the lead for good. Robbins added another RBI to make it a four run lead for DBU, and Stafford retired the side in the bottom half of the inning, leaving the Patriots with the 13-9 win.

The Patriots will return to action tomorrow evening, as they prepare for game two against the Bulldogs at Beiden Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:05 Central Time.
