Patriots Drop Game Two Against Fresno State

Box Score

After opening the series with a win in game one last night, the Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team dropped game two against the Fresno State Bulldogs on Friday evening, 14-7. The loss drops the Patriots to 24-18 on the season.

Senior Ryan Millard was dealt the loss for DBU, after pitching six innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, and striking out three.

The Patriots started the evening with two consecutive singles by Juniors Tyler Robinson and Jason Krizan, and a walk by Senior Ryan Enos to load the bases. Freshman Austin Elkins then gave the Patriots an early 1-0 lead when he reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Robinson, earning his 32nd RBI of the season.

The Patriot lead didn't last long as the Bulldogs drove in two runs off Millard in the bottom half of the inning, making it a 2-1 game.

Senior Ryan Enos put the Patriots ahead once again in the third with his 13th homerun of the season, a two run shot to right field. Enos' homerun scored Krizan, who had reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning, and made it a 3-2 game in favor of the Patriots.

Refusing to be outdone, the Bulldogs responded with a three run homerun in the bottom of the inning, to regain a 5-3 lead.

Robbins drove in two more runs for the Patriots in the top of the fourth with a single up the middle, scoring Sophomore Ryan Behmanesh who had reached on a single of his own, and Freshman Duncan McAlpine who had drawn a walk. Krizan, the team leader in RBI, picked up his 46th of the season with a single to score Senior Austin Knight, giving DBU a 6-5 lead.

The Patriot bats went cold the next four innings, but the Bulldogs caught fire as they added two runs in the fifth, three in the seventh, and four in the eighth, for a commanding 14-6 lead.

DBU's last run came in the top of the ninth, when Enos scored Robbins with a sacrifice fly, leaving Fresno State with the 14-7 win.

The winner of the series will be decided tomorrow, as the two teams face off for game three at Beiden Field. The first pitch is set for 8:05 Central Time.
