The Dallas Baptist Patriots dropped the second game of their three game series against the University of Evansville, Friday night in Indiana. DBU only managed two runs on the evening, falling 3-2, and dropping to 17-14 on the season.
After pitching five innings and only giving up two earned runs on five hits, Freshman
Will Lane picked up the loss for the Patriots, his second of the season.
Trailing 1-0 headed into the fifth, Senior
Austin Knight knotted the game at one for DBU with his sacrifice fly, scoring Freshman
Austin Elkins who had reached on a walk.
The Purple Aces responded in the bottom of the inning, leading off with two doubles and a single, and regaining a 2-1 lead. Cody Fick added another run for Evansville on a sacrifice fly to left field, making it a 3-1 game.
DBU answered again in the top of the sixth, after Senior
Ryan Enos doubled down the left field line with one out. He later advanced to third on a groundout by Sophomore
Ryan Behmanesh, and then scored on a RBI single by Freshman
Duncan McAlpine, leaving the score 3-2.
After a scoreless seventh and eighth, the Patriots managed to get two players on base with one out in the ninth, but the Purple Aces converted a double play to get out of the inning, sealing the 3-2 win.
The Patriots will face Evansville again tomorrow afternoon, as they look to avoid the three game sweep. The first pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
